It’s no secret that Britain is a nation of DIY-lovers and according to recent research, more than half (56 percent) of the UK have cracked on with DIY during lockdown, with an average of four jobs being completed. We have researched and collected Google search trend data to determine which specific DIY tasks are proving the most popular during quarantine. From outdoor garden jobs, to standard around-the-house fixes, we’ve compiled the UK’s top lockdown DIY tasks.
Key Findings:
-
The biggest increase in popularity amongst the DIY tasks during the lockdown, is how to build a pizza oven which saw a huge 326% increase year on year indicating how much more time we’re spending in our gardens due to the pandemic (and how much we clearly love Pizza..)
-
The top four DIY tasks which saw the highest increases in searches were all outdoor-related.
-
Many Brits are turning to DIY when it comes to creating their home offices too, with searches for ‘how to build a desk’ increasing 126%.
-
People appear to be tacking DIY tasks that they have previously put off or hired a professional to do, for example ‘how to fix a dripping tap’ increased by 83% and ‘how to put up wallpaper’ increased by 120%.

Building and Fixing
Us Brits are renowned for our stubborn ‘I can fix it’ nature, which has clearly reflected in the increasing amount of people fixing and building things themselves around the home. The data we’ve collected also shows that many people have even been doing some DIY in their home offices by building their own desks.
